detroit, 1993. the burden brothers, known for their octave one project and 430west record label, start a new sub label called direct beat. it was created to release the techno electro sounds of inner city detroit. in 1995 the label was in full effect and released music produced by friends such as tommy hamilton, keith tucker, mad mike banks, will web and them self.
now 15 years later we know that direct beat was one of the big influences on how electro and techno is today. together with underground resistance, axis, m-plant in detroit and some like minded people in europe and artists such as drexciya, aphex twin, autechre and dopplereffekt it changed the way people looked at techno... it broke away from the dominant 4/4 kick and brought back the funk and emotion that disappeared once house and techno became popular and mainstream music in the early 90s.
we are happy to bring back direct beat records by making some of its classics available for a new generation. this is a part of techno music history we may not forget about! especially in these days that people consume more and more of the format tracks. this shows that emotion, passion and energy creates much more then just a dj tool... it creates tracks that become part of peoples life! and not for just one or two months in your i-pod... but for the rest of your life in your record collection! timeless classic collection... must have!

fresh outa detroit comes the first release on beretta music sub label beretta red. a four track compilation featuring respected artists arthur oskan, third ear and kanzleramts dennis desantis, and label head honcho brian kage. bear trax ep vol 1 is a collection of luscious detroit inspired techno jams aimed firmly at the dancefloor. strictly limited to 200 copies, and if thats not enough comes on appropriately enough tasty red vinyl. it also comes with a code to download all tracks free in digital format... which we presume must be for the girlfriends ipod.

the first release on phonica white limited series is from tokyos iori. this young producers impressive work ranges from woozy ambient electronics to full-on club tracks. the common thread is a highly developed sense of texture and arrangement.a-side galaxy is simply lean, expertly crafted techno, led by a rolling bassline and crisp hi-hats, with hypnotic melody patterns skittering off the surface. its a trippy but accessible heads-down affair that has the depth and the bite to do damage at peak-time and in the after-hours alike. urge on the flipside is an even deeper, sub-heavy cut, an insistent, club-friendly groove swathed in burbling synth arpeggios and fx. despite being stripped-back, the sound design and sheer warmth of the production is incredible. the track really breathes.

no much is known about the new kid in the playground ladzinski, but what we do know is that he has his own sound placed firmly between the different schools of proper house music. he steps up to the plate to deliver a true gem of a first release with four varied but very modern house tracks, there are elements of chicago, new york, detroit and berlin spread across the whole ep. spacey chords, deep sub-bass and snappy drums give this ep a real warm feel for the dance floor.

after his recent release on clone a made up sound (aka 2562) presents his new platform for his own beat freakery. it is no news anymore that dave huismans is one talented guy! his debut 2562 album was one of last years highlights ... and his new album set for early winter 09 will be not create a smaller buzz! in the meanwhile mr huismans also managed to squeeze out some killer tracks out of his machines for his a made up sound project! these 2 tracks will get a limited run on his newly started label. >rework< started out as a sneaky bonus remix but ended up as a killer techno track in its own right, with stomping 4/4 beats, an irresistibly simple 3 note chord melody and gut-wrenching sub bass. contrasting is >closer< on the flip, where a yearning vocal stab spirals around a warm synth line that just keeps on building over signature punchy broken beats and a big b-line, all the way until its climaxing breakdown. highly recommended!

nils ohrmann moved to berlin in the middle of the 90s, where he knew the rave culture was in full bloom- from e-werk to ostgut. he himself was a dj at the infamous schnabelbar in kreuzberg for eight years. since 2004 he has been a resident at rosis in friedrichshain. in may 2009 he made his first ep for hula hoop recordings (a sub-label of rompecabeza), which was a hit in the berlin clubs. coming up next is catalog number 2: >green sleeves<.

after fergies massive >eye of storm / maktub< release, next up on his forward thinking excentric muzik label is the first offering from a new collaboration between two men of the moment, christian smith & reset robot, entitled >elixir<.
>elixir< is a driving monster with one of the catchiest and most addictive hooks of the year, instantly recognisable and is sure to be the highlight of many sets as it has been for fergie over the summer. on remix duties is mr henry von, who runs excentric sub-label rekluse with fergie. his >tribal rage< remix utilises the original hook, adds an interesting array of percussion, then takes the listener on a mind-melting journey full of twists and turns. gary beck (still on a roll after his massive >consumed< on minus) also takes hold of the remix reigns and delivers a deep and hypnotic workout that has already been included on christian smiths forthcoming renaissance compilation he liked it so much.

simply put the beltram remix is massive. floor killer. bass for days and programming mastery.
londons king roc throws down a deep dirty mix. organ pad layered with full sub attack.

taken from the pagliaccio album on moodmusic, filippo moscatello gets the remix treatment from his favourite house heads in the circuit.. quarion rocks houz into a frenzy of stabbing, jacking and deep bass for the full flavoured floor experience, indeed one of his best remixed to date and thats saying something. dirt crew hooligan and old school house head on his own, james flavour takes kleinmond on a trip to nyc about 1993 and slabs phat beats coupled with his trademark stabby keys and the one-note bassline to a late night belter. last but not least trickski shows their genuine talent in transforming houz to a peak-hour sub-120 groover, with live piano and a great chicago inspired groove that makes you yearn for more

patrick begins with his techno bomb “tooth n nail”, a track that showcases a heavy detroit influence with smooth synth work reminiscent of productions from robert hood and carl craig. midway through the track, patrick keeps us guessing with a wobbly synth line that adds playfulness to an otherwise straightforward, moody journey. an understated use of serene female whispers throughout gives this tracks techno classicism a fresh sound. next patrick gives us “davinches”, a chugging tech-house track that pairs a deep, buoyant bass line with a tight, resonant kick, giving it a dynamic groove. patricks tight percussion work keeps things moving with its rims, clicks, and ticks set against a spooky, playful melody that energizes and propels the track to its finish. fans of guido schneider won’t want to miss this one! on the flip, nyc’s elon of clink recordings fame, and a newcomer to klectik, takes on remix duties with a minimal techno take on patrick’s “tooth n nail”. elons version is a pulsating, stripped down mind-bender marked by sub-bass and the sporadic clangs of raw machinery — sexy! this remix maintains the smooth character of patricks original in melodic sensibility, but stands on its own via sparse rhythmic patterns resulting in a deeper, moodier treatment.
